WILDLIFE HERITAGE OF EUROPE (prof. dr. Sándor Csányi, dr Joachim Köller, dr Attila Zoltán)

The hunting trophy should be regarded as a species-specific feature and as a status symbol of the game itself - and not of the hunter. The largest antlers and horns are carried at the transitional age between the prime and the post-prime stages. Males of the age have given their contribution to the survival of their species, respectively population and can be harvested as the best trophy bearers, and as a reward for the conservation of the primes. This is the true concept of sustainability and the best practices in recording of hunting trophies are key components of sustainable wildlife conversation. Modern trophy evaluating systems must therefore be judged on their biological relevance, comparability, practicability, objectivity and social acceptance.

In this sense, I welcome this publication of outstanding hunting trophies and hope it will help to increase the understanding of nature's beauty and richness among those admire and conserve our natural heritage.
